When talking about marijuana, we are generally referring to the plant known for its psychoactive effects. The structure of this plant typically consists of a stem, which can be either thin and tall or short and thick, broad leaves of bright green color, and aromatic flowers, better known as buds. Whereas, what many people don’t know is that there are different types of weed that vary depending on the region of origin, structure, and aromas offered by their flowers. Over time, these species have intermingled and mixed, creating a significant number of hybrids cherished by all consumers and cultivators of the plant.
In this post, we will focus on three main species: Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Ruderalis.
Sativa marijuana type
Among the three different types of weed, this one is the most famous for its structure and aromas, and the most cultivated so far. Regarding its origins, experts place it in tropical areas such as Jamaica, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, or even various areas of Central Africa.
Structure
The structure of sativas always remains among the most stereotyped images of this plant. It is composed of a long and slender main stem, wide and thin leaves, and large buds with long stems. The buds, in particular, are of great interest to growers and consumers. These flowers have a fluffy and non-compact consistency, which provides aeration and prevents the occurrence of fungi.
As for cultivation, these plants easily adapt to both indoor and outdoor cultivation, although indoors they have a longer flowering time.
Finally, this variety is highly appreciated for its low fertilizer consumption. Being a very resistant plant, it will only need water and light in the right measures, leaving aside those especially costly cultivation techniques.
Effects
As mentioned earlier, the buds of this plant are characterized by their long colas, which offer a good amount of trichomes and, consequently, cannabinoids. This variety has one of the highest THC levels, which is the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects produced by consuming it. Among the main effects of cannabis sativa, the most prominent are: creativity, euphoria, and an increase in energy, especially from a mental point of view.

Indica weed type
Indica marijuana is considered the most commercial among the different types of weed in the world. This is because, despite being native to the warm areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan, over time it has adapted perfectly to the European climate.
Structure
Unlike its Sativa counterpart, Indica strains are characterized by having a lower and sturdier structure. The central stem of this specimen is usually thick and tends to develop downwards. As for its leaves, they usually have a wide and broad shape, less elongated than Sativa. As for its flowers, they tend to be compact and heavy, a trait that unfortunately often facilitates moisture accumulation inside and therefore the formation of fungi.
Indica marijuana is one of the most appreciated by both novice and experienced growers who cannot dedicate much time to its cultivation. This is not only due to its adaptation to adverse climates but also to its flowering speed.
Effects
The most remarkable effects of cannabis Indica are mainly physical and mental relaxation. It is precisely because of these characteristics that it is the most appreciated type in the medical field, especially for relieving physical pains caused by chronic illnesses or anxious disorders such as insomnia.
Finally, some of the best varieties of this strain, excluding hybrids, are: Kritikal Bilbo or White Russian Regular.

Ruderalis marijuana type
The Ruderalis plant is a species native to the northeastern regions of Europe, therefore, it is highly resistant to cold climates as it has grown in mountainous areas with low temperatures.
Structure
The structure of Ruderalis marijuana usually consists of a very short stem and narrow leaves. Due to its genetic characteristics, it is mostly used to generate hybrids with other species. This is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated varieties by growers living in cold climates due to its resistance, but also because of its significant seed production. These seeds can withstand frozen soil, remaining perfectly preserved until the snow melts; from that moment on, they begin to germinate autonomously.
Ruderalis is capable of flowering according to the times established by its own nature and without any influence from external agents such as temperature or light changes. However, the autoflowering nature of this plant makes it unsuitable for the formation of cuttings, as it has a too slow flowering for this process.
Effects
The cannabis Ruderalis plant has the lowest concentration of cannabinoids, so its effects are very mild compared to sativas and indicas. This is another reason why it is often hybridized with other varieties. In any case, it is capable of providing excellent aromas and a slight relaxing effect.
Among the various names associated with this type of cannabis, we highlight Ruderalis Indica Regular with its earthy aromas and relaxing effects.

Types of weed: autoflowering
Autoflowering weed plants are mostly Ruderalis mixed with seasonal plants. This variety brings the most advantages to growers, as it offers the opportunity to enjoy the autoflowering aspect of Ruderalis along with the indica and sativa effects.
Structure
Being hybrids, autoflowering plants often present very varied leaves and flowers, depending on whether the hybrid has been produced with a Sativa or Indica. As for height, these plants do not develop a particularly tall stem, due to their Ruderalis genetics.
Regarding cultivation, this variety usually takes about 60 days to flower; a short time that explains why this type is highly appreciated by growers. This aspect makes them ideal even for places with few warm months; in which case, they will flower in August and be ready for harvest in December. As for indoor cultivation, this plant performs best if provided with its 20 hours of light per day.
Effects
The effects of hybrids, like their aesthetic structure, will always depend on the parents that gave them life. For example, in the case of autoflowering hybrids with a balanced percentage between Sativa and Indica, the effect will be more euphoric at first and, as the hours pass, it will become increasingly relaxing both physically and mentally.
The most appreciated varieties that have been most successful among autoflowering plants, we remember the name Magnum, a Sativa/Indica hybrid with sweet and incense-like aromas.

Finally, as mentioned earlier, over the years, a large number of hybrids have been created, and it is expected that many more will be developed in the future. For this reason, the distinctive purity of the different Sativa, Indica, or Ruderalis strains will eventually fade away to make way for new and improved hybrids.
