One of the main goals when growing marijuana is to obtain abundant yields with high quality buds. For this to happen, we usually resort to fertilizers or chemical additives that can potentially damage the environment and affect the quality of the yield. Due to this, over the last few years, natural and organic products are becoming more popular as they promote healthier flowers. This is the case with trichodermas, a fungus that hasn’t stopped gaining growers over the past while.
Trichodermas are fungi that act as a biological agent towards all sorts of plagues that attack our plants. Its properties also improve rooting, growth and nutrient absorption, which makes it a great option to carry out a crop without chemical traces.
Trichodermas to control plagues
Before trichodermas’ properties were discovered, it was used as a natural fungicide. It was actually one of the first options for growers, as it was affordable and chemical-free.
However, it wasn’t all that easy. There are around 30 types of trichoderma variants, and while some of them are beneficial, others are parasites. Science had to step in and identify which ones acted as fungicides through a long research.
The method used by this fungus to control plants and bacteria is very simple. Once it is added, it installs itself in the roots and feeds from them. When a harmful fungus gets near it, trichodermas approach it and release enzymes that paralyze its movement and growth, stopping it from accessing the plant and feeding from it.
It turns into some sort of competition. Fungi start a battle over space, light and water, but trichodermas have extremely potent natural substances against other types of fungi, which turns it into a powerful tool to control plagues.

How do trichodermas act?
First step: Trichodermas identify the fungus, release its enzymes and kill it. Afterwards, it feeds from the dead fungi and leaves enzymes on the substrate for the plants.
Second step: The plants absorb trichoderma’s enzymes and the roots, the stem, the leaves and the flowers acquire its defense mechanism.
Third step: These enzymes provide plants with antibiotic metabolites that inhibit the growth of harmful fungi, bacteria and viruses.
Trichodermas boost the crop
Trichodermas not only improve the plant’s defense towards pathogens, they also boost all of its vital cycles. This fungus improves the substrate, which promotes a strong and healthy rooting. Plus, these benefits promote plant’s growth as it is easier for the plant to absorb nutrients.
All of these elements help the crop to root, grow and develop optimally, and it also increases its defenses to combat possible threats. Amazing properties that promote a great quality yield full of tasty, big and healthy buds.
