How to use the Secret Smoke 5-Ton Hydraulic Rosin Press:
- It can be used for marijuana and hash extractions. Hash doesn’t require previous preparation, but if done with weed you’ll need to remove as many leaves and stems as you possibly can.
- Something that you need to keep in mind when extracting using this press is that the weed shouldn’t be too dry. If your weed is too dry you’ll hardly get anything, so you’ll need to humidify it again until it’s softer, like when it’s still being cured. The best thing to do is to place it inside a container, and then place that container inside another container with some water in it that you can then close. After around 30-60 minutes your marijuana should be ready for the extraction process.
- Next, you should place the material to be pressed inside Nylon filters for rosin; if it's weed, use 120 micron filters, and for hash, you need a 37 micron filter.
- Prepare a sheet of rosin paper, cutting out the necessary amount so that it will fit in the press. You’ll need to make some folds in the paper; one along the middle and then along the sides so that no resin can escape through the sides or the back of the press.
- Once everything is prepared, turn the Rosin Press on using the On button in the center of the control panel, and the two screens should turn on. Each screen corresponds to one of the metal plaques on the press.
- By pressing the SET button once you’ll be able to select the temperature and if you press it again you’ll be able to adjust the time. After a few different tries, we’ve determined that 100ºC is a good temperature and 120 seconds should be more than enough. You can experiment for your own preferences, however, once you have the right parameters set, hold down SET until it brings you back to the main screen. You’ll need to set the same configuration for the second screen.
- If you’re on the main menu and no numbers are flashing, hold SET down for a few seconds and you’ll reach a submenu where you can select the hysteresis of the temperature to, say, 5º. This means that if the temperature is set to 100º, it will only go up or down 5 more degrees.
- It will heat up slowly, due to the fact that the entire plaque is heated more or less in a balanced and uniform way. While it’s heating up, prepare the press. In the hydraulic part you’ll see a sort of lever which you’ll need to use to put pressure on the plaques. Underneath the lever you’ll see a screw and a sign telling you to loose before using. Remember to tighten it again once you’re done. This is done so that the hydraulic liquid doesn’t end up spilling when you move the press about, but when using it you need to loosen the screw to allow air in and out. Don’t remove it all the way, as it will splash out when you remove the pressure.
- Another important thing to take notice of is a round, roulette-like key on the side of the hydraulics. This is used to open or close the passage for the hydraulic liquid. You need to turn it clockwise to close it, which allows pressure to accumulate when you use the lever. If the key were open when trying to use it the plaques would never reach each other. Once you’ve finished pressing, close the key up and the plaques loose pressure and move further apart.
- Once everything is prepared and you know what’s what, you can begin the extraction process. Place the rosin paper between the plaques and the filter with your weed or hash between the paper and properly centered in the plaques (you can easily place two filters). Press by using the lever until you reach 5 tonnes; you can see the pressure on the manometer in PSI, which is the equivalent of KG of pressure; 5000 PSI is the same as 5000kg of pressure.
- Once you have the right amount of pressure you’ll need to activate the countdown in the timer by pressing the red button between the screens, and you’ll see the time being counted down. Once it gets to 0, an alarm will go off telling you to loosen the plaques.
- Turn the wheel on the side of the hydraulic pump counter-clockwise and the plaques will separate. Remove the filter with the weed or hash and let it cool down for a bit. Once it’s cold, it’ll be easy to remove from the rosin paper by using a dabber. You’ll need to scrape it all up and stick it together in the same ball on another piece of clean rosin paper.
- Once you’ve finished the process your extract will be ready to consume, although we recommend letting it dry for about a week so that it can lose all of the humidity and obtain a consistent and hard texture. You can consume it like any other BHO extract; in a pipe, in a vaporizer, in a joint or mixing it with olive oil and taking it in drops.
