What is Live Rosin?

The world of cannabis is rapidly advancing, driven by the increasing tolerance of this plant, the evolution of favorable laws, research and technological advancements. All these factors promote the continuous emergence of innovations in this field, thereby raising the level of sophistication: here is where live rosin comes to play.

Indeed, cannabis concentrates are a striking example of this, and resin extraction has become a common practice that allows for the isolation of valuable active substances found in this plant. Among all the extraction methods, live rosin has quickly established itself as an advanced technique for obtaining high-quality resin, rich in terpenes and cannabinoids.

What is Live Rosin?

Live rosin stands out as a method of extracting cannabis resin through two distinct steps. Firstly, the adjective “live” refers to the use of fresh, non-dried cannabis flowers for extraction. This helps preserve terpenes and cannabinoids in their purest and most natural state. Secondly, the term “rosin” refers to the extraction technique that relies on the application of heat and pressure to separate trichomes from cannabis buds, all without the use of chemical solvents.

Effects of Live Rosin

The effects of live rosin are inherently influenced by the cannabis strain used to create this concentrate. Nevertheless, they are consistently characterized by their potency, rich aromatic bouquet, and captivating flavor attributed to the synergy between the active compounds of the plant and its terpenes, which provide a specific taste and aroma profile.

As a result, choosing a THC-rich cannabis strain, typically derived from a sativa, will likely induce a state of euphoria, cognitive stimulation, increased creativity, and energy. Conversely, indica-dominant strains with a high THC level will produce a more calming effect, promoting sleep, stimulating appetite, and potentially offering therapeutic properties.

On the other hand, CBD-rich cannabis strains will yield more balanced mind-body effects, as long as THC is present. If the tetrahydrocannabinol level remains sufficiently low, only therapeutic properties will be discernible, such as pain relief or stress and anxiety reduction, among others. Additionally, it’s important not to overlook the entourage effect, as the combination of terpenes and cannabinoids enhances the therapeutic benefits.

It is essential to consider these aspects when selecting a strain to tailor the experience based on desired effects and potential therapeutic goals. However, it’s worth emphasizing that the consumption of cannabis, regardless of the chosen strain, requires a responsible approach that adheres to applicable laws and regulations.

How to make Live Rosin

Making live rosin is very similar to regular rosin, but instead of using cured flowers, you must use fresh leaves. During the drying and curing of flowers, the buds can lose up to 60% of their more volatile terpenes and essential oils. Therefore, by using freshly harvested flowers, the result will offer a more complete terpenic profile.

Making Live Rosin Step by Step

Here, we’ll learn how to make this type of concentrate. As for the utensils, you will need a rosin press, rosin bag filters, and baking or rosin paper.

  • First, place the flowers or hash in a rosin bag filter as tightly as possible while leaving some space at the end to fold the mesh so the plant material does not come out.
  • Second, take the rosin or baking paper and cut a piece larger than the mesh used. You should fold it to create an envelope, leaving only one side open for the rosin to come out.
  • Next, it’s time to plug in the press. You can set the desired temperature based on the expected results. However, it is recommended to heat the plates to 194ºF (90ºC) and place the paper (with the overture facing you) containing the flowers on them. Then, bring the plates together without pressing for 30 seconds to generate more heat.
  • Lastly, press as hard as possible and observe how the resin starts to come out of the envelope’s opening. Continue for a few minutes until the live rosin stops flowing.
  • Once done, separate the plates and turn off or unplug the press. Retrieve the envelope and put it in the fridge for two or three minutes to cool the mixture and facilitate separation.
  • Regarding collection, it is advisable to use a special tool designed for this purpose, such as a dab tool, but you can use any item that scrapes. Take the paper and scrape off the adhered live rosin, then place it in a glass or silicone container for storage.

How to Consume Live Rosin

Live rosin is quite potent, considering that it’s a pure concentrate of terpenes, cannabinoids, and flavonoids. Therefore, it’s advisable to start with low doses and increase gradually if necessary.

There’s no doubt that when it comes to consumption, vaporization is the most commonly used technique, whether through dab rigs, vaporizers, or bongs, among other devices. Additionally, some consumers also like to add it to rolled joints to enhance their potency and flavor.

In light of the above, live rosin appears to be a perfect extraction method as it offers an extraordinary flavor profile, high purity, and significant potency; all while being free from chemical additives. However, it does come with drawbacks such as the cost of the press.

In summary, live rosin is undoubtedly a major advancement in the field of cannabis extraction. By preserving fresh flowers, this method retains the active compounds and unique aromas of the plant, thus providing an exceptional consumption experience.
