How much weed does a plant produce

When introducing yourself into the cannabis grow world, you may be wondering, as many other growers, how much weed does a plant produce. There’s not an exact answer to this question as producing these plants depends on the factors described below, which must be known in order to control them and get the best results for each crop. This way, we’ll be able to plan our growth and get the best yields.

Factors that may affect your yields

When growing and maximizing each cannabis plant yield, we must take into account the following factors that may significantly affect our production:

The chosen genetics

The chosen seeds’ genetics play an important role in regards to how much weed we can get from a cannabis plant at the end of the crop. This is not the only affecting factor, but it’s one of the most important ones. On one hand, we must take into consideration that sativa strains usually produce higher yields, up to 1 kg (2.20 lbs) per plant. As for indicas can produce up to 500 g (1.10 lbs) per plant approximately. However, nowadays we can find some indica strains with a production yield similar to that of sativas.

Choosing the genetics will depend on where the growth is taking place and which effects are we looking for. Also, autoflowering strains produce below-average yields even if they can be harvested faster.

You can go for more productive strains. Some of the best, cheap and productive feminized seeds are Banana Punch, Gorilla or Green Poison Fast Version F1.

Indoor or outdoor growing

The growing site will depend on each cannabis grower since not everyone has a garden or a specific place where growing is allowed. Normally, indoors crops have lesser outcomes than outdoors as plants that grow in soil can stretch their roots without any problems, growing stronger and sturdier.

A sturdier and developed root system allows the plants to absorb more nutrients, water, and oxygen in order to grow vigorously high while producing a greater number of buds.

Provided nutrients

Marijuana plants have specific and nutritional requirements that are important to know and provide in order to boost your yields. The most important nutrients to care about are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The levels of these macronutrients vary depending on each plant’s stage.

Thus, in the vegetative phase, they’ll be needing slightly higher levels of both nitrogen and potassium, while during the flowering period phosphorus levels will be higher and nitrogen levels will be lower. In the same way, we must pay attention to micronutrients such as calcium, zinc, magnesium and sulfur.

All these nutrients must be provided in a correct way, without overfertilizing the plants. This is why we can use a premixed formula specifically designed for this purpose.

Temperature and humidity levels

Temperature range is important as it’s responsible for both flower quality and weight. It must range between 10-28 ºC (50-82.4 ºF). We must take into account that the degrees will depend on the chosen strain. For indoors growing, we must control the amount of light provided, as well as its voltage in order to create the right environment.

Regarding the right humidity levels, they should range between 40-60%, but they must be reduced during the last weeks of the flowering period in order to prevent bud problems.

Ventilation

Plants need carbon dioxide to grow properly. This compound is abundant in the air and can be provided to plants by allowing proper ventilation so the oxygen generated by them will flow. A right airflow will prevent the appearance of certain harmful organisms for plants.

Growing knowledge

A beginner can’t get the same yield per plant as an advanced grower, as some knowledge is required such as plants’ trimming or stress. Beginners will have minor results, but gradually they will increase their production

The amount of plants

The more space to grow the cannabis plant has, the more buds will support. So, the less plants you have, the more optimized their performance will be, as we can pay more attention to those plants. Thus, we must decide how many plants are we growing depending on each one’s space and crop capability.

How much weed does a plant produce

Although the produced yield depends on all the factors mentioned before, some obtained productions are:

In outdoors crops

The production will rely on if we are planting in soil directly or in pots, among other elements. This way, some outdoors properly grown strains can reach up to 1.5-2 kg (3.30-4.40 lbs).

In indoors crops

In this case, the production is generally lower as the average ranges 500 g per square meter (1708 lbs per square inch), but this yield depends on all the factors mentioned above, coupled with the amount of plants we are growing.

All this information is only illustrative, as it is difficult to exactly know how much weed a marijuana plant produces. The obtained results will rely on multiple factors, so a single plant can produce totally different yields depending on each growth method and grower.
