Dolomite: organic fertilizer for marijuana

Carrying out a marijuana grow successfully depends on plenty of aspects, but all of them require a high level of compromise. A cannabis plant needs soil with a well-balanced pH, proper electric-conductivity levels, correct nutrition, and perfect temperature and humidity.

As time goes by, growers are paying more attention to additives that can improve the crop, making sure that they are beneficial for different areas at the same time. One of these materials is dolomite, a mineral that is quite popular among experienced growers.

Where does dolomite come from?

Dolomite is a natural rock that comes from sedimentary mountains. It is made of magnesium and calcium, and although it has been used throughout history for chemical or construction purposes, it is now in high demand among growers due to its characteristics.

This mineral was discovered by French geologist Déodat de Dolomieu. Dolomite honors his name. It comes in lots of different colors: white, gray, red, pink, or even black, and its composition includes 30% calcium, 20% magnesium, and 50% carbon dioxide.

Dolomite is frequently found in sedimentary rocks. It is formed by the mixture of water that is rich in magnesium with calcium deposits. This process is called dolomitization.

Before being part of the cultivation world, this material was part of the metallurgy and ceramic industry. It is also a valuable resource for collectors, especially in its less frequent shapes when it creates large crystals.

What does dolomite provide to a marijuana crop?

Dolomite has been used on marijuana crops as a complementary material for years. This mineral features certain properties that make it ideal for any grow, such as pH regulation, secondary nutrients, or soil improvement, among others:

  • It’s a pH regulator. Dolomite turns acidic land into fertile soil.
  • It adds secondary nutrients, such as calcium or magnesium (essential for proper cell structure development), which are basic for the growth and flowering periods.
  • Also improves chlorophyll creation, helping plants with their photosynthesis process.
  • Boosts microbiological activity, releasing nutrients towards the roots and improving their correct absorption.
  • Increases substrate’s NPK levels (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium).
  • Counteracts the toxic impact of certain minerals, such as aluminum, iron, or manganese.
  • Improves soil’s structure.
  • Increases the speed at which matter decomposes.
  • Stimulates the growth of roots, leaves, stems, and flowers.
  • It also acts as a natural fungicide, improving plants defenses against fungi, insects, or plagues in general.

Calcium and magnesium source

Although dolomite features all the properties previously mentioned, its main function is to add extra calcium and magnesium, two essential minerals for cannabis plants that facilitate photosynthesis, strengthen plants’ cell walls, and improve nutrient absorption.

Calcium

It’s the mineral in charge of adding strength to the cell walls of the plant. It also promotes the development of roots, leaves, and flowers, as well as improving nutrient absorption. When plants lack this mineral, their leaves suffer burns and they stop growing.

On the other hand, weak cell walls make it easier for plagues to invade the plants. Calcium deficiency reduces the yield as the buds will be smaller and weaker.

Magnesium

Magnesium is essential for plants to perform photosynthesis, as it regulates the creation of photosynthesis. It is also in charge of activating enzymes that facilitate sugar transportation all over the plant. Magnesium deficiency causes plants to suffer burns and lose their lovely green color. For this reason, soil pH has to always be between 5 and 7, as outside those parameters, it can’t absorb this mineral.

How to use dolomite

There are two ways of using dolomite. The most common one is by mixing it with the substrate before planting the seeds. Dolomite promotes pH regulation while providing the necessary slow-releasing nutrients for the proper development of the plant.

Another option is to add it throughout the life of the plant by mixing it with the fertilizer in order to compensate for possible nutrient deficiencies, especially calcium and magnesium. In this case, it is best to add small doses each time to prevent an excess of any of these minerals, as this could also damage the plant.

The best dolomite fertilizers

With all the beneficial properties dolomite provides to cannabis plants, it is no wonder that growers decide to buy products with this mineral in them. As it couldn’t be any other way, GB The Green Brand has the best dolomite-based product.

Dolomita, by THC

Dolomita, by THC, is an organic fertilizer that provides slow-releasing calcium and magnesium, which will prevent plants from lacking these minerals. It also improves poor substrates where growing plants is difficult, as it regulates their pH and makes them suitable for growing.

Mix this product with the substrate before planting the seed or add it to irrigation water to regulate nutrients throughout the cultivation cycle.

Use mode:

  • Add 1 grams per every liter of substrate
  • Add 0.5 to 3 grams per square meter of the crop. Mix with water and apply to the substrate as needed.

Composition:

  • 37.8% calcium
  • 11% magnesium

Greetings. I haveover 200 published outdoor sports articles under my belt. I also have over a decade of growing marijuanna experience with well over 1000 plants harvested. Who can I contact about writing about this subject?

Hi. Unfortunately, we do not have a contact you could talk to about this subject. We just publish the articles our colleagues write down. Sorry about that! Kind regards.
